Full lips has become quite popular with celebrities and fashion models touting luscious lips. Unfortunately, everyone is not blessed with full lips. Two popular options exist: lip augmentation with fillers or fat and lip implants. In addition, with age, the corners of the mouth begin to droop and the V-shaped area of the upper lip known begins to flatten out and lose its youthful fullness. Lips can be rejuvenated and thin full lips can be enhanced.

A quick way for lip augmentation is with fillers. Dr. Lee prefers to use dermal fillers (like Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane) or fat grafting to enhance and plump your lips in a natural appearing way to fit your face. These options can also be used to enhance the natural silhouette of your upper lip and Cupid’s Bow. If there are any vertical wrinkles or lines along the outer borders of the lips, these can also be addressed and minimized.

Fat transfer plumps up your lips using fat taken from other areas of your own body where fat accumulation is undesirable (such as your belly or flanks). Fat transfer is a safe, natural procedure designed to restore aging areas of volume loss.

Following lip augmentation with injectables or fat grafting, your lips may have minimal swelling for a few hours. You may return to normal activities the same day. Dr. Lee is conservative in her use of fillers to avoid a duck-lip or trout-pout appearance and will show you the progression of lip augmentation during the procedure to achieve a natural appearing result.

Dermal fillers are not only used for lip augmentation but can also be used to correct asymmetric lips.  It is not uncommon to have one side of the lips be fuller than the other.  Dr. Lee is able to skillfully correct the asymmetry by filling the less full side to match the fuller side and create more symmetry to your lips naturally without looking fake through the use of dermal fillers. The natural silhouette of your upper lip and Cupid’s Bow can be accentuated, and any vertical wrinkles along the outer borders of the lips can also be minimized during correction of the lip asymmetry.

For a more permanent but reversible solution, lip implants may be used to augment the lips. This is a great option for those who want a consistent and natural appearance without having to have their lips filled with temporary fillers on a routine basis.  There are different sizes of lip implants available and Dr. Lee will consult with you to determine which is most appropriate to achieve the look you desire.  Lip implant placement is an in-office procedure under local anesthesia that provides a natural appearing result. Discomfort is minimal and most people can resume their normal activities the same day.
