Face lift Surgery
Unfortunately as we age, our skin starts to sag and we lose skin elasticity and muscle tone leading to a loss of facial volume. As the skin sags, there can be accumulation of fat and tissue under the chin area. Genetics and increased sun exposure can accelerate the aging process, and A facelift is performed to improve the appearance of the mid- and lower face as well as the neck. Combined with forehead lift/browlift and blepharoplasty, the entire face can be rejuvenated.
Dr. Lee understands that a customized approach to a facelift needs to be taken to achieve a rejuvenated look with subtle and natural appearing results that are balanced with your face. Each patient seeking a facelift has different needs and desires prompting a thorough but personalized approach. It is this dedication and customized approach to facelifts that gives results that exceed our patients’ expectations.
Sometimes less is more. With Dr. Lee, the facelift specialist, you won’t be overstretched or overtightened after your facelift. Her goal is to give you a refreshed, natural appearance…and your girlfriends won’t even know you’ve had something done.
What factors cause facial aging that prompt a face lift?
Thorough knowledge and understanding of the underlying facial structure including the bony anatomy is critical in facelift surgery. Before any surgery is planned, the bony anatomy needs to be evaluated to determine the framework to achieve the desired natural appearing results from a facelift. Sometimes, the chin needs to be augmented and other times the cheeks need to be enhanced to improve facial definition to maximize the results of the facelift.
Excess skin is usually the result of decreased elasticity in the dermis, which results in formation of facial wrinkles and folds. While excess skin will be conservatively removed, removal of the skin only is what results in an overtightened, overstretched appearance. To achieve natural appearing results following a facelift, the underlying muscles and SMAS layer need to be tightened so that the overlying skin can be draped resulting in a rejuvenated but natural appearance that is balanced to fit your face.
The Evolution of Face lift surgery
Even until a few years ago, faces were thought of as two-dimensional instead of three-dimensional objects. This has drastically changed the way faces are approached in facelift surgery. Restoration of volume combined with facelift surgery optimizes a natural appearing balanced facelift result our patients desire.
Incisions and Procedure
Face lift incisions are carefully planned out prior to the actual procedure in a way that is hidden or minimally visible. In women, the face lift incision is behind the ear extending to the area behind the tragus so that any potential scarring is minimally visible. In men, the face lift incision is placed behind the sideburn in a naturally present crease and extended behind the ear. If there is excess fat or muscle under the chin, a small separate incision may be necessary in the natural crease under the chin.
What are the options for a face lift?
Challenging the ticking clock can be done surgically or non-surgically with the liquid facelift. Every person ages differently and the effects of genetics, environment, and gravity affect the overall facial appearance for both men and women. Unfortunately, facelifts are only a part of the equation, and a complete facial rejuvenation needs to be performed to achieve outstanding, optimized results.
The Facial Rejuvenating Process Involves More than just a Facelift or Rhytidectomy
1. Skin Care is a critical component for facial rejuvenation. This encompasses:
- Medical Grade anti-aging skin care products
- Sun protection
- Medical Grade Moisturizures with active ingredients
- Tobacco avoidance
- Chemical Peels
2. This is then followed by non-surgical procedures to enhance the face.
- Laser resurfacing (including fractionated CO2, fraxel, IPL, photofacials)
- Dermal Fillers / Injectables: Restylane, Juvederm, Sculptra, Perlane, Radiesse,
- Multilevel fat grafting or fat transfer to the face
- Botox or Dysport
Customized Face lift / Rhytidectomy
Many patients achieve such an improvement with just the medical grade skincare and non-invasive procedures above that they do not need any further surgical intervention. However, your custom consultation with Dr. Lee will discuss areas of concern on your face that will benefit from skin care, non-surgical treatments, and/or facial plastic surgery, such as facelift / rhytidectomy. In order to do this, all areas of the face need to be analyzed to come up with a customized plan that will result in a balanced and aesthetically pleasing result. Areas that may be addressed include:
- Endoscopic browlift / forehead lift
- Facelift / rhytidectomy
- Cheek Implant
- Neck lift
- Chin Augmentation
- Fat grafting or transfer
As a specialist in facial plastic surgery, Dr. Lee does NOT believe in overtightened or overstretched results from facelift or any facial plastic surgery. Dr. Lee’s goal is to achieve balanced results that are natural appearing so that you look refreshed and rejuvenated without looking like you’ve had facial plastic surgery.
Camouflage makeup and techniques for the initial healing process following facelifts or any facial plastic surgery or non-invasive facial procedures will be recommended to help you resume normal activities as soon as possible. Special post-operative care, unique to facial plastic surgery, will be recommended to minimize any potential scarring. To optimize the achieved results, continued medical grade skin care regimen is encouraged.
